Doña Tules Portrait

US$350.00

Doña Tules was a saloonkeeper, gambler, and power broker in 1800s Santa Fe, a woman who defied every expectation of her time. I painted her as both a reclamation and a reminder: that New Mexico has always been shaped by women who knew how to survive, deal, and dominate in their own right. Her portrait honors the legacy of frontier cunning, feminine grit, and unapologetic ambition.

This portrait is a re-imagining of the image that appeared in Harper's Bazaar in the late 1800s.
